A+B Quick Line: How to Quickly Create Guidance Lines on Your Gen 4 Display

The A+B Quick Line function is a user-friendly way to set up temporary guidance lines on John Deere Gen 4 Displays, making field passes more efficient—especially for operators who need a simple, quick way to engage AutoTrac.

Understanding the A+B Quick Line Feature

This feature was introduced with the 2019 "19-1" software update.

What Does A+B Quick Line Do?

  • Allows you to create a line by marking Point A, driving at least 10 feet, then marking Point B.

  • Generates a guidance line instantly; perfect for operations like tillage where you don’t need to reuse these lines.

  • Does not save the guidance line to any field—each new A+B Quick Line overwrites the previous one.

  • Designed for speed and simplicity, making it ideal for less experienced users or quick setup scenarios.

How to Add A+B Quick Line to Your Shortcut Bar

  1. Access the Menu: Tap the "Menu" button on your Gen 4 Display.

  2. Open Layout Manager: Select "Applications" and navigate to "Layout Manager."

  3. Customize Shortcut Bar:

    • Select your shortcut bar (usually "Default Shortcut Bar").

    • Remove the existing "Quick Line" shortcut, if present.

    • Press the "+" button to add a new shortcut.

  4. Find and Add A+B Quick Line:

    • Go to "Applications."

    • Select "AutoTrac Guidance."

    • Scroll until you find "A+B Quick Line."

    • Add it, then save your changes.

  5. Return to Run Page: Your shortcut bar now displays "A+B Quick Line."

How to Use the A+B Quick Line Feature

  1. Start the Process: Press the "A+B Quick Line" button in your shortcut bar to set Point A.

  2. Drive Forward: Move at least 10ft (3m) to set a valid line heading.

  3. Mark Point B:

    • As you drive, Point A appears on the display.

    • When you reach the desired end (such as the other end of the field), press "Set B."

  4. Engage AutoTrac:

    • The guidance line appears as "A+B Quick Line."

    • AutoTrac switches to "On" automatically.

    • Use the machine's resume switch to begin automated guidance.

Why Use A+B Quick Line?

  • Speed: Quickly sets guidance for a pass without saving lines for later use.

  • Simplicity: Ideal for temporary operations and newer operators.

  • Flexibility: Easily overwritten each time you create a new line—no need to manage saved lines for each field.

  • Common Uses: Tillage and other tasks where precise, repeatable lines are less important.
