Are there easy fixes for my lawn tractor not starting?
Yes, check the spark plug, fuel quality, and air filter first if your lawn tractor is not starting.
Lawn tractor engines are relatively simple, and many starting problems can be resolved with a few quick checks. First, pull the spark plug, if it’s black, oily, or worn, replace it. Ensure the spark plug wire is securely connected and undamaged.
Next, drain old fuel and refill with fresh gas, especially if the machine sat unused for weeks or months. Ethanol in fuel can degrade quickly and clog carburetors. Add a fuel stabilizer to prevent future issues.
Check the air filter, clean foam filters with soapy water and allow to dry completely, or replace paper filters if they appear dark and clogged. Also, ensure the choke and throttle are set correctly for a cold start.
Finally, make sure the seat switch, brake switch, and PTO are in the correct positions. Many no-start issues come from accidentally tripping a safety interlock.
