Completing a Field and Refolding Your SeedStar 4HP Planter

Step-by-Step Guide for Exiting the Field Safely

This article walks through the essential steps to take before exiting a field with your John Deere SeedStar 4HP Planter. Following these steps will help prevent equipment damage, clear monitor warnings, and ensure safe transport. This guide is designed for operators using John Deere planters with SeedStar 4HP and assists you in handling key shutdown operations and folding instructions.

Step 1: Turn Off the Vacuum System

  • Navigate to the tractor screen to locate SCV (Selective Control Valve) number three.

  • Check if the vacuum is currently turned ON.

  • Select SCV number three and place it in "float" mode—look for the squiggly line icon underneath the SCV to confirm.

  • Return to the planter page and verify the vacuum is off.

Step 2: Shut Down Electric Power Generation Unit (EPG)

  • On your SeedStar display, select the SeedStar page.

  • Turn off the EPG (Electric Power Generation unit).

  • If you accidentally leave the EPG on and shut off the PTO (Power Take Off) first, a monitor warning will appear.

  • To clear this warning:

    • Go to the Diagnostics menu.

    • Select “Clear Fault.” The warning should disappear.

Step 3: Turn Off PTO (Power Take Off)

  • Once the EPG is off, turn off the PTO.

  • Always ensure EPG is turned off before shutting down the PTO to avoid electrical warnings.

Step 4: Fold the Planter

  • Select “Frame Control” on the display.

  • Ensure the neutral status warning is acknowledged.

  • Raise the planter completely while it is still in Plant Mode.

  • After the planter is fully raised, select “Transport Mode.”

  • Place the tractor in neutral and select “Wing Fold.”

  • Use SCV number 1 to fold the planter.

  • Use the three-point hitch to position the planter so the wings can fold towards the center.

  • Stop SCV number 1 once folding is complete.

  • Select “Wing Wheel Lift” and use SCV number 1 to raise the wing wheels.

  • Once the wing wheels are fully raised, select “Frame Height Off.”

  • Raise your three-point hitch to the fold position.

  • You are now in transport mode and ready to safely move to the next field.
