How to Adjust Moisture Correction & View Field/Load Totals on the John Deere S700 Combine

Quick Guide to Using the Generation 4 Display

This article explains how to view field and load totals, calibrate grain tank levels, and adjust moisture correction on your John Deere S700 Combine using the Generation 4 display. Follow these steps to optimize your harvest data and grain handling.

Viewing Totals: Fields and Loads

You have multiple ways to see your harvest statistics:

  • Shortcut Menu:

    • Press the "Totals" button from the shortcut menu.

    • Displays field name, area, moisturedry yieldthroughput, and variety summary.

    • Switch to "Load Totals" to view the running load totals for the field.

  • Extended Display Setup (if applicable):

    • Recommended to set up a second run page.

    • Display load totals (left side): shows load number, moisture, yield, wet weight bushels.

    • Display field totals (right side): shows total wet/dry bushels, average moisture, acres worked.

    • Both field and load data can be viewed simultaneously for real-time monitoring.

Calibrating and Monitoring Grain Tank Level

Optimize your grain tank alerts:

  • Grain Handling Area Navigation:

    • Access by pressing the grain handling icon or via the menu.

    • Calibrate using two steps:

      • Set "Empty Level" when tank is empty (0%).

      • Set "Full Level" when tank is full.

    • As you harvest, monitor the grain tank percentage fill; it counts down as the tank empties.

Adjusting Moisture Correction

Ensure your combine reports accurate moisture readings:

  • Accessing Moisture Correction:

    • In "Grain Handling", select the moisture correction icon at the bottom.

    • Enter the correction value (not the actual moisture).

    • Example:

      • Combine reads 13.2% moisture, elevator reads 14.1% moisture.

      • Enter 0.9 (add 0.9% to the combine).

      • Use "+" for positive correction, "-" for negative correction.

  • Do Not Use Fixed Moisture:

    • Fixed moisture disables the moisture sensor; use this only if sensor is faulty.

Moisture Alarms

Set up notifications for moisture levels:

  • Turn on moisture alarm and set maximum/minimum values.

  • Useful for keeping your crop within a desired moisture range, e.g., for soybeans.

Advanced Grain Tank Features

Customize your alerts and tank readings:

  • Grain Level Beacon Lights:

    • S700 Combine lights activate at ¾ or full tank.

    • Toggle auto beacon on/off in advanced settings.

  • Custom Grain Tank Alerts:

    • Set alerts for a specific fill percentage (0-100%).

    • Example: At 50%, receive a notification.

  • Tank Unloading Offset Adjustment:

    • If tank percentage reading is incorrect at empty (e.g., shows grain leftover at 0%),

      • Decrease offset value (enter a negative number).

    • If tank shows non-zero when truly empty,

      • Increase offset value (enter a positive number).

    • Use the built-in help feature on the display for guidance.

Example Scenario

If your combine shows 13.2% moisture, but the elevator reads 14.1%, adjust the moisture correction on the display by adding 0.9. This ensures your combine's readings align with the elevator, resulting in more accurate reporting and payment.

Common Questions

  • What should I do if my moisture sensor fails?
Use the "Fixed Moisture" setting only when the sensor is not working.

  • How do I set a moisture alarm?
Turn on the feature in Grain Handling, then set your desired moisture limits.

  • Why isn’t my tank level reading zero when empty?
Adjust the tank unloading offset as described above.
