How to Bleed Air from Your Fuel System Safely
A safe method for bleeding air after a fuel filter change.
- Prepare the Equipment
- Ensure the equipment is off and cooled down.
- Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental starts.
- Locate the Fuel Filter and Bleed Valve
- Check your manual to locate the fuel filter.
- Locate the bleed valve near the fuel filter or pump to release air.
- Open the Bleed Valve
- Place a cloth around the valve to catch escaping fuel.
- Carefully open the valve, allowing air to escape.
- Prime the Fuel System
- Turn the key to "on" without starting the engine to activate the fuel pump.
- Ensure the pump runs for 10-15 seconds to prime the system.
- Close the Bleed Valve
- Once fuel flows steadily without bubbles, close the valve and clean any spilled fuel.
- Reconnect the Battery
- Attach battery terminals, starting with the positive.
- Start the Engine
- Ensure the engine runs smoothly without issues.
