How to Complete a 2-Point TCM Calibration on a John Deere StarFire 7500 Receiver

Accurate guidance starts with a properly calibrated receiver. A 2-point Terrain Compensation Module (TCM) calibration helps the StarFire 7500 account for changes in terrain and machine orientation, supporting more accurate AutoTrac guidance and field documentation.

Complete a 2-point TCM calibration whenever the receiver is installed, moved to another machine, or adjusted.

Before You Begin

Before starting calibration, verify that the StarFire receiver measurements are correct:

  1. Navigate to Menu.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. Select StarFire.
  4. Open Setup.
  5. Enter or confirm the correct StarFire height and fore/aft measurements.
  6. Select the CAL button to begin the calibration process.

Correct receiver measurements are important because the system uses them to calculate accurate machine position.

Position the Machine

Park the machine on a level surface and bring it to a complete stop. Make sure the machine is stable and that the cab is not rocking.

Mark the position of the tires or tracks on the ground. This creates a reference point so the axle or machine pivot point can return to the same location for the second calibration measurement.

Complete the First Calibration Point

Once the machine is positioned and stable:

  1. Select Enter to begin calibration.
  2. Watch for the calibration status bar as the system records the first position.
  3. Drive the machine forward.
  4. Turn the machine 180 degrees so it is facing the opposite direction.
Align the Machine for the Second Point

After turning around, reposition the machine so the correct reference point returns to the location you marked before beginning calibration.

  • On machines with a floating front axle, including MFWD, ILS, or TLS machines, align the machine so the rear axle returns to the same marked position.
  • On fixed-front-axle or tracked machines, align the machine so the pivot point returns to the same location when facing the opposite direction.

Stop completely and make sure the machine is stable before continuing. Accurate alignment is critical because the receiver compares these two opposite positions during the calibration process.

Finish the Calibration

Once the machine is correctly aligned:

  1. Select Enter again.
  2. Allow the system to complete the second measurement.
  3. Wait for the success message.
  4. Select Enter to return to the StarFire setup screen.

If the calibration does not complete successfully, repeat the process and pay close attention to machine stability, reference-point alignment, and receiver measurements.
