How to Manually Calibrate the Yield Monitor on a John Deere S700 Combine

Step-by-Step Instructions for Accurate Yield Calibration

If you need to manually calibrate the yield monitor on your John Deere S700 Series Combine, follow these user-friendly steps to ensure your harvest data is accurate. Calibrating the yield monitor helps you match harvested grain weight to real field measurements for better precision agriculture outcomes.

Manual Yield Calibration Process

1. Prepare for Calibration

  • Shut down Active Yield:

    • Access the combine’s display, select the Menu button.

    • Navigate to Calibrations and Procedures.

    • Select Active Yield and turn it Off.

2. Start Yield Calibration

  • Scroll to the bottom of Calibrations and Procedures and select Yield Calibration.

  • Tip: It’s recommended to perform a Mass Flow Vibration Calibration first, found above in the list. This helps improve sensor accuracy.

3. Collect Calibration Loads

  • To begin a new calibration load:

    • Press Record, then Start.

    • Begin harvesting at your chosen speed.

  • Use the mass flow rate indicator to adjust and record at different flow rates by varying ground speed.

  • Collect at least 3,000lb (1,360kg) of grain per sample for best results.

4. Save and Match Sample Weights

  • Once a pass is complete, select Done.

  • You’ll see unmatched samples. Press Match Scale Weight.

  • Select Scale and enter the actual sample weight measured using a certified scale.

  • Select Save to log the calibration data.

  • The display will show error percentages for each load.

5. Repeat for Accuracy

  • Run 4–5 different calibration loads at various speeds and flow rates. This improves your calibration across typical harvest conditions.

  • For each load:

    • Press RecordStart, and harvest.

    • Match and save the scale weight as in Step 4.

6. Finalize Calibration

  • After all loads are collected, select Done.

  • Match any remaining unmatched sample weights and Save.

  • You can perform additional loads if you want even greater accuracy.

Advanced Options

  • Select the Advanced Settings arrow for more features:

    • Choose between Auto or Manual calibration modes when selecting samples.

    • Use Edit to view, select, or deselect collected sample loads.

    • Save your selection to update and fine-tune your calibration.

Common Questions

Why do I need multiple calibration loads?

  • Running several loads at varied speeds and flow rates helps your yield monitor remain accurate under a wide range of harvesting conditions.

Do I need to perform Mass Flow Vibration Calibration every time?

  • While not required each time, it improves sensor accuracy and is highly recommended before yield calibration.

What amount should I use for each load?

  • Aim for at least 3,000lb per sample to ensure reliable calibration results.

What if I make a mistake entering a scale weight?

  • You can edit or re-enter sample data using the Advanced Settings menu.
