How to Transfer and Edit Boundaries in John Deere Operations Center

Learn how to move driven boundaries from your display into Operations Center and use the built-in tools to manage them for season-long field planning.

In this article, we cover both wireless and USB transfer methods, plus the editing tools you can use in Operations Center to keep your field boundaries organized and ready for precision farming work. The guidance below also includes an important note on autonomy boundaries and when editing can affect their status.

Why boundary transfer matters

Once a driven boundary is saved on the display, it should also be transferred to Operations Center along with any interior boundaries or headlands. This makes the boundary available for setup files and work plans that support crop production tasks throughout the year.

Keeping boundary data in Operations Center helps you build a cleaner digital record of each field. It also makes it easier to reuse the same information across other connected setup items and planning steps.

Transfer options

There are two ways to send boundary data to Operations Center.

  • Wireless sync through a connected machine with data sync enabled.

  • Manual export and import using a USB drive on a machine without connectivity or data sync enrollment.

Wireless sync

If your machine has connectivity and data sync set up, the display will automatically synchronize data to Operations Center based on the import options configured in Operations Center Organization Preferences.

After the sync runs, you can check the transaction log on the display to confirm the boundary was sent successfully. Then go to the Land section in Operations Center to find the boundary in Available or Archive.

USB export and import

If your machine is not connected or not enrolled in data sync, you can transfer setup data manually using a USB drive.

  1. Insert the USB drive into the display.

  2. Open File Manager.

  3. Select Export.

  4. Choose Custom Export.

  5. Select the correct client, farm, and field.

  6. Choose Export Setup Data.

  7. Complete the export to the USB drive.

  8. Use the USB drive to import the data into Operations Center on your computer.

Once imported, the boundary is stored in the Land area of Operations Center.

Editing tools

After the boundary has been saved and transferred, you can edit it in Operations Center using several tools.

  • Rename the boundary.

  • Move boundary points to adjust shape.

  • Split one boundary into two shapes.

  • Combine overlapping boundary shapes into one.

  • Copy a boundary to another field.

  • Merge multiple fields and boundaries into one.

  • Add interior boundaries or headlands.

These tools help you clean up field data and keep your boundary records aligned with real-world conditions. That can be especially useful when fields change over time or when you need to organize boundaries for different operations.

Autonomy boundary cautions

Special precautions apply when editing autonomy boundaries.

Only one exterior shape can be associated with each autonomy boundary, and moving or adding points outside the original boundary will cause it to lose its autonomy quality status. Because of that, the merge and combine tools cannot be used for autonomy boundaries.

If you try to make a change that affects autonomy status, a warning message appears to let you know the boundary will be reclassified as not autonomy if you proceed.

Best practices

Before you start editing, confirm that the boundary was transferred correctly and appears in the proper field record in Operations Center. If you are using data sync, review the transaction log to verify the transfer completed.

When working with autonomy boundaries, make changes carefully and stay within the original shape whenever possible. That helps preserve the boundary’s autonomy quality status and avoids unnecessary reclassification.

Field readiness

Boundary creation is one of the most important steps in preparing for precision technology on your farm. Once your boundary is saved, transferred, and edited as needed, it becomes a reliable part of your setup for future crop production work.

At Koenig Equipment, our team is here to help you get your boundaries organized so you can spend less time on setup and more time getting work done.
