How to Use Full Auto Mode on John Deere E23 Transmission

Simplified Guide for Efficient Tractor Operation

What is Full Auto Mode?

Full Auto mode is a selectable transmission mode on John Deere tractors equipped with the E23 Transmission. When activated, Full Auto uses Efficiency Manager to automatically shift gears and adjust engine speed, helping you save fuel while maintaining your desired travel speed.

How to Select Full Auto Mode

  1. Verify Full Auto is Selected:

    • On your transmission box display, check that "Full Auto" is highlighted.

    • If not, use the transmission selector to choose Full Auto mode.

  2. Activate Efficiency Manager:

    • Efficiency Manager will automatically turn on in Full Auto mode.

Setting Your Desired Speed

  • Primary Goal:
Select the speed you want your tractor to travel.

  • Two Easy Methods:

    • Scroll Wheel:
Use the scroll wheel on your command arm for small, precise speed changes (by tenths of a mile per hour).

    • Transmission Shifter:
Shift normally (like changing gears) for larger jumps in set speed.

  • Example:
To shift from 4.4mph to 4.0mph, use the scroll wheel for that final fine adjustment.

Starting and Managing Speed

  1. Release the Brake/Clutch:
Let out the clutch or brake to start moving.

  2. Set Throttle:
For the tractor to reach your set speed, push the throttle all the way forward. If the throttle is low, tractor speed will be less than the set speed.

  3. Observe Efficiency Manager:
The system will shift up and throttle back to maintain the highest efficiency.
Example: Tractor shifts to a higher gear and lowers engine rpm to save fuel, reaching the set speed.

Adjusting Speed While Moving

  • Scroll Wheel:
    Use to make fine adjustments.

  • Shifter:
Shift up/down for bigger changes, just like a traditional powershift.

Using Set Speed 1 and Set Speed 2 Buttons

  • Quick Access to Pre-selected Speeds:

    • Press Set Speed 1 or Set Speed 2 buttons to jump to your favorite speeds.

    • Adjust either speed using the scroll wheel while the mode is active.

  • Examples:

    • Press Set Speed 1 to quickly drop from 6mph to 5mph for a headland turn.

    • Use Set Speed 2 for a second commonly used speed.

Stopping the Tractor

  • Slow Down:
    Pull back on the throttle.

  • Stop:
Apply the brakes (Auto Clutch function) or use the clutch pedal.

Exiting Set Speed Modes

  • To quit using Set Speed 1 or 2, shift the tractor manually and take back speed control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to manually shift the tractor in Full Auto mode?
A: No. The tractor will automatically shift and throttle back in Full Auto for best efficiency, but you can adjust the set speed manually at any time.

Q: Will Full Auto mode always maintain my exact set speed?
A: The tractor tries to maintain your set speed, but you need to keep the throttle in full position for it to achieve the target.

Q: Can I switch between Set Speed 1 and 2 on the go?
A: Yes. Toggle between them as needed, such as when approaching a turn or changing field conditions.
