How to Use Vacuum Automation on SeedStar 3HP Planters

Streamline Planting with Vacuum Automation

Vacuum automation is a new feature available on electric drive planters equipped with SeedStar 3HP. It ensures your planter maintains the correct vacuum level automatically, saving you time and helping deliver consistent planting performance. This article walks you through setup and operation, so you get the most from your equipment.

What Problem Does Vacuum Automation Solve?

  • Consistent Seed Placement: Keeps vacuum levels steady for accurate seed singulation and consistent crop emergence.

  • Ease of Operation: Reduces manual adjustments by automatically controlling hydraulic flow based on planter and tractor needs.

  • Efficiency: Lets you focus on planting, with confidence that vacuum adjustments are handled throughout your workday.

Step-by-Step Guide: Setting Up and Running Vacuum Automation

1. Access Vacuum Automation Settings

  • On your tractor display, select:

    • Menu → Planter Auxiliary → Vacuum Automation Icon

  • You’ll see the target vacuum level. Default setup is likely complete if your planter is new.

2. Assign Tractor Hydraulic (SCV) Settings

  • Go to Setup

  • Assign which hydraulic SCV controls your planter’s vacuum function.

  • Ensure “Planter-Controlled Vacuum Automation” is selected.

Tip: If your planter is new, SCVs and automation are often pre-configured and ready to go.

3. Confirm Automation Status

  • Look for the Auto icon on your tractor Command Center:

    • Example: Vacuum Number Three is set to Auto—this means automation will control vacuum levels.

4. Review Your Vacuum Automation Screen

  • The automation screen displays a pie chart with three pieces initially.

  • Engage the SCV for vacuum to trigger automation.

  • When successful, the fourth piece of the pie appears.

5. Prime the Planter with Seed

  • On your main planter run screen:

    • Turn on power generation.

    • Select drive symbol.

    • Fill the seed meters.

  • Once meters are filled, vacuum level should read correctly.

If there’s no seed in the planter, vacuum levels won’t display. Make sure the system is fully set up and ready before starting your field work.

6. Confirm Full Automation

  • When everything is working, the vacuum automation display shows all four pieces of the pie lit up green—that’s your sign automation is fully engaged.

  • Look for arrows and icons similar to "AutoTrac On" for visual confirmation.

Common Questions

Q: What if vacuum levels won’t adjust automatically?
A: Check that the correct SCVs are assigned, “Planter-Controlled Vacuum Automation” is selected, and the display is set to Auto.

Q: Do I need to configure this every time?
A: No. Most configurations are set up initially, especially with new planters. Just review before each use.

Q: Who should I contact for help?
