What to do when a pulley is bent on your mower deck
Steps to address a bent pulley on your mower deck
- Safety First
- Turn off the mower and let the engine cool. Disconnect the battery to avoid accidental starts.
- Inspect the Pulley
- Check the pulley for bending or damage and ensure alignment with the belt and other pulleys. Inspect the belt and nearby parts for wear or damage.
- Remove the Bent Pulley
- If needed, remove the mower deck. Use tools to unbolt and detach the bent pulley from the spindle.
- Replace or Repair the Pulley
- Replace a significantly bent pulley with a compatible new one. For minor bends, carefully straighten it with a pulley alignment tool, though this is not always recommended.
- Reinstall the New or Repaired Pulley
- Secure the new or repaired pulley on the spindle, ensuring proper alignment with the belt. Reconnect the belt correctly.
- Test the Mower
- Reconnect the battery, starting with the positive terminal. Start the mower, listen for unusual noises, and check for smooth operation.
