Your John Deere serial number (John Deere also calls it the product identification number, or PIN, and Gator owners often call it the VIN) is on the metal identification tag on the machine's frame. On a lawn tractor it is usually under the front right wheel; on a Gator, at the right rear near the hitch.
The serial number is a 17-digit alphanumeric code on the top of the tag (Example: 1M0Z235AHCM130002).
The model number is displayed below the MODEL heading (Example: Z235) on the left side of the tag.
Looking for the engine number? It is stamped directly on the engine, not on the ID tag.

Where is the ID tag on a riding mower?
A lawn tractor usually has the ID tag under the front right wheel.
Otherwise, the ID tag can be found by the back left wheel. The engine number will be found directly on the engine.
Locating the ID tag on Residential ZTrak™ Mowers
To find the ID tag on your zero turn mower, begin by looking at the rear of the machine. The tag will be located right above the engine on the frame, or underneath the engine. Also, the engine number will be listed directly on the engine.
Locating the ID tag on Gator™ Utility Vehicles
The ID tag on Gator Utility Vehicles can be found either at the back right above the hitch or on the right side between the back tire and cargo box. If it is not there, go to the right front tire and look inward and up toward the firewall. The engine number can be found directly on the engine. Locate ID Numbers on Push Mowers
To find the ID tag on your push mower, look directly on the mower deck. If you're looking for the engine number, it will be located directly on the engine. Locations for the engine number may vary depending on engine type and manufacturer.
What to do with your serial number
The 10th character of the 17-character serial number is the year code for when the machine was built. When you order parts, give us both the model and serial number so we pull the right diagram for your exact machine.
