How to Read a John Deere Serial Number (17-Digit Lookup and Year Decoder)
Your serial number helps with ordering parts, scheduling service, or registering your equipment.
Your John Deere serial number (John Deere also calls it the product identification number, or PIN) is a unique 17-digit alphanumeric code that identifies your exact machine. To read it, count from the left: the 10th character is the year of manufacture, and the final digits are the machine's sequential production number. Keep it handy when you order parts, schedule service, or register your equipment.

How to Read Your 17-Digit Serial Number
-
First two characters: World Manufacturer Code (indicates factory location)
-
Characters 3-8: Machine Model information
-
9th character: Check digit (verifies accuracy of the VIN)
-
10th character: Year of Manufacture (follows a specific code pattern)
-
11th character: Transmission Type
-
Final digits: Sequential Manufacturing Serial Number
The 10th character gives the year the machine was built, which is not always the same as its model year. If you are unsure, call or text your nearest Koenig store, read us the full number character by character, and tell us the machine type (tractor, Gator, mower).
Where to Find Your Serial Number
Finding your model number and serial number is as easy as locating the identification tag on your machine. If your tag shows fewer than 17 characters, send us the full number exactly as printed and we will identify the machine for you.
